ONSIGHT 3D SEMINAR

Onsight recently hosted a 3D seminar for us at their facility here at Shepperton studios, it was attended by several of our Dops an Operators and here are the thoughts on the day from one of our guys....

A very informative and interesting day, well structured and with a small group of people to instruct both Richard Mills, from On Sight, and stereographer Geoff Harrison gave a very good presentation.

The day started with a look at some of the hardware available in the way of 3D rigs, large and small, and also some of the camera combinations that could be employed with those rigs. Stedicam compatible combinations were also looked at.

Projected examples of test and show reel footage were viewed to show some of the potential errors that can be encountered when shooting 3D. Both Geoff and Richard could then show how some of those errors can be avoided. A Question & Answer session that followed the screening was of great benefit.

After a very pleasant lunch and further conversations we then looked at post production in 3D. A certain amount of correction can be achieved in post to correct some of the imbalance between cameras, lenses, colours and alignment. We were shown On Sight’s suite of tools for correcting some of these issues. Along with the basic corrections the suite could also modify the images to make them pleasantly viewable in 3D by introducing edge masks etc.

All in all a very informative and well presented talk, coupled with a lovely lunch in the sun.
